Chiefs Defeat Chargers in Mexico City

The 2019 NFL season is more than halfway over. There are still a lot of question marks concerning which teams will make the playoffs. It was a game that the Chargers could have won. However, their QB Phillip Rivers made some mistakes at crucial points during the game that cost his team a chance to win. There was no bigger mistake by Rivers than when he threw an interception in the red zone with time winding down. The Chargers needed one touchdown to tie the game. It was the fourth INT for Rivers in the game.

The loss leaves the Chargers 4-7 this season. They have almost no hope of making the playoffs. There are many people who believe that Rivers has become a liability and that his career might be over at the end of the season. It remains to be seen if that will be the case. Rivers has 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions this year. Those are terrible numbers for him. He will need to stop throwing so many picks if he is going to stay in the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs will most likely win their division. They will be the only team from their division to make the playoffs. They are 7-4 after their 24-17 win over the Chargers. Patrick Mahomes played very well. However, the Chiefs committed some very costly penalties that prevented them from running away with the game. Chiefs coach Andy Reid was proud of the way that his team played. He felt that they battled and performed well. However, he admitted that his team needs to clean up the penalties they are committing. Reid also said the quality of the field turf was very good. Last year, there was a game that was scheduled to be played in Mexico City. However, it was not played there because the field was in very bad shape.

There is no telling what the Chargers will decide to do at QB next year. Rivers has had a career which might get him into the Hall of Fame. His performance for the rest of this season will have a lot to do with whether or not he returns in 2020. For now, the Chargers will be playing out the string. The Chiefs will be trying to get a higher playoff seed.
