The Sport for Healing Fund was established by the Houston Rockets in collaboration with Texas and international professional sports organizations to offer sustained assistance to the Uvalde community. The fund is supported by a five-year pledge unveiled in June by the Houston Rockets and Texas Rangers. The fund will assist with all events that benefit the people of Texas and its communities. So far, the fund has contributed to 29 events throughout Texas, including those held in Laredo, La Mesa, and San Antonio.

“We are very excited about being a part of the collaborative efforts in our home state,” said Rockets owner Leslie Alexander. “We are very proud to be able to extend support to the state of Texas.” The fund provides financial assistance to events that provide large groups health services, education, and recreation. The fund is focused on events that use sports-related activities and those with a health focus. All events must meet eligibility requirements, and no single event can receive more than 5 percent of the total donation volume of the fund.

“With this partnership, we are taking a step to improve the health and well-being of young people in our communities, as well as support local communities,” said Rangers president Nolan Ryan. “Sports have proven to be an effective vehicle for youth development, which is why we are proud to partner with the Rockets on this initiative.” The Uvalde Youth and Community Center will be the first recipient of funds from the Sport for Healing Fund. Furthermore, the Rockets and Texas Rangers have committed to donating $200,000 to Habitat for Humanity’s Hurricane Relief efforts in Texas.

The Sport for Healing Fund builds on the philanthropic mission of sports organizations in Texas. It will provide an opportunity to expand support and recognition of charitable efforts that use sport as a vehicle to reach at-risk youth and improve their quality of life. The fund has already made a positive impact on many projects in Texas.
