Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell opens for a special three-day engagement in 900 theaters across the United States. The film presents the final entry in the trilogy started with House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects. Original stars Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon Zombie, and Sid Haig return to reprise their roles. Unfortunately, Sid Haig’s character of Captain Spaulding ended up dramatically reduced from the original screenplay. Health problems necessitated Haig’s role getting cut back.

Sadly, Haig also recently suffered a fall in his home. To make the legendary actor feel better, Zombie and the stars of 3 From Hell wished Haig a speedy recovery. The accident caused a great scare as Haig experienced breathing problems and found himself in the Intensive Care Unit. At present, Haig is recovering well. The actor and his fans do feel some sadness about the actor’s inability to provide cinematic closure to the menacing character.

Richard Brake, the villain in Zombie’s previous film 31, was written into the film to replace Haig in many scenes. Brake’s charisma and skillful ability to play bad guys makes him an excellent addition to the film. He is not, however, Sid Haig. Nor is his character Haig’s Captain Spaulding. Ultimately, something is missing from the final film.

Haig’s medical condition rendered him unable to play a large part in the film. Zombie also noted that concerns existed about the film’s insurance coverage due to Haig’s health. Without insurance coverage, Lionsgate, the studio behind the film, wouldn’t allow Haig to appear at all. Haig almost didn’t appear in the film. Eventually, he appears in, essentially, a cameo role.

Sid Haig remains a favorite of horror and cult movie fans. He is most well-known for films such as Spider Baby and TV programs such as Jason of Star Command. His complete film and television biography would require many pages to cover.
