While the cataclysmic finale of “Avengers: Infinity War” is still fresh in the minds of many, some are worried on what effect the film will have on the sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Marvel Studios is already hard at work promoting “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” producing the “Captain Marvel” film and developing the as-yet-untitled spider-sequel. While some rumors claim that Jake Gyllenhaal will serve as the film’s primary antagonists, barely any other information has been officially confirmed regarding Phase Four of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe.” As many fans know, the lack of any confirmation of facts leads to plenty of speculation and rumor. Included below are many of the more popular rumors, as well as the reasoning behind why those rumors continue to gain traction.
- The film’s title will be called “Spider-Man: Field Trip.” This is based on the notion of continuing a high school naming convention with the films’ subtitles that was started with Spider-Man: Homecoming. Many also believe it will be the film’s proper title upon hearing that the film will spend a majority of its time beyond the landmarks of New York City. If this proves true, it seems an easy decision to name the final solo film “Spider-Man: Graduation Day.”
- A “reliable source” stated that one of the film’s major plot points will be Peter Parker’s grief and mourning over the loss of Tony Stark in the as-yet-unreleased and untitled fourth Avengers film. The source also claims that Spider-man will have little time to himself as Mysterio will be doing everything in his power to steal the latest and greatest of Stark’s technologies.
- Field Trip is set to occur mostly within London, with Peter and his fellow students pursuing an international field trip to attending a Stark Industries conference. The film is set to introduce British agent Jessica Drew and Alistair Smythe, known in the comics as the nefarious “Ultimate Spider-Slayer.”
- Rumors also predict that fans will get to see a bit of Scorpion and Vulture, a surprise reveal in Mysterio’s employer and further building toward the long-awaited anti-Spidey team known as the “Sinister Six.”
While none of these rumors are that unbelievable, it feels weird to hear Marvel and Sony working toward using someone like the Ultimate Spider-Slayer. Many have believed that Tony Stark will meet his end in Avengers 4, if only because Robert Downey Jr.’s contract will have concluded.
