Disney Channel has finally found the lead actors for an impending “Kim Possible” live action film. Sean Giambrone, who currently features on ABC’s sitcom “The Goldbergs,” will star as the character Ron Stoppable and film his role during the production break for the sixth season of The Goldbergs. Stanley is a 16-year-old resident of Columbia, South Carolina who got the role of the eponymous character on her first audition. The film will start production this summer and is planned to debut next year.

Judy Taylor, senior VP of casting and talent relations for the company, remarked that Sadie had all of Kim Possible’s major traits: confidence, intelligence, physicality and the appearance of a regular girl. Taylor described Giambrone as an actor with charisma who conveys the right blend of physical comedy and emotion.

The film was first announced in February of this year. The film will focus on high-schooler Kim Possible as she seeks to stop supervillains with the assistance of Ron Stoppable, a pet naked mole-rat named Rufus, owned by Ron, and Wade, an African-American teen who serves as Kim’s tech support.

Kim Possible started out as an animated television program that aired in 2002. The series lasted 87 episodes, across four seasons. The series received a 2003 Emmy award nomination for Outstanding Animated Program and launched two animated films, subtitled: “So the Drama” and “A Stitch in Time.” Christy Carlson Romano provided the voice of Kim and Will Friedle provided Ron’s. In her time since working on the Kim Possible cartoon, Romano has continued to perform in a variety of films and television, with some dabbling in the realm of video games and stage performances. While Romano has continued to thrive in on-camera performances, Friedle has mostly gone for work that did not involve a face, gaining a great deal of prestige as a voice actor for many comics and Disney-related projects; since the debut of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Friedle has served as the animated voice for anything involving Star-Lord a.k.a. Peter Quill.

Other cast and crew for the live action incarnation will include Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley, Kim’s creators, who will serve as script writers for the project, as well as its executive producers. Josh Cagan is also credited as a writer and Zanne Devine is a third executive producer. Lastly, the project will be co-directed and co-produced by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein.
