Marvel Studios is already planning to add Kamala Khan to its films after “Captain Marvel.” With “Avengers: Infinity War” alluding to the Captain in its post-credits scene, fans have been pondering what “Ant-Man and The Wasp” and Captain Marvel, the films sandwiched between Infinity War and the fourth Avengers film, will offer. While its known that Ant-Man and The Wasp is already confirmed to tie-in to Avengers 4, Captain Marvel is being perceived as a vital component of the MCU’s future. Some fans are already thrilled with the fact that Captain Marvel will be the first MCU film to feature a leading female.
While the news from Cinema Blend of a cinematic adaptation of Captain Marvel is pleasing to many, it can also serve as an opportunity for more characters. One of these characters would be Kamala Khan, the current “Ms. Marvel” within the comics, a superhero fangirl and Islamic Inhuman who drew inspiration from Captain Marvel and received the Captain’s blessing to use her old hero name. While Kamala is not on the cast list for Captain Marvel, MCU boss Kevin Feige has already confirmed that there are plans to bring her to the big screen, adding that fans would not have a very long waiting period.
The notion that Kamala would be added to the MCU shows a degree of forethought on Marvel’s part. Kamala’s presence within Captain Marvel would be odd, as most-if-not-all of the film is set in the 1990s. While Captain Marvel’s presence after her solo film and in present times remains unknown, it will mean a great deal to many for her to return to her home planet. The most plausible scenario is that Kamala becomes inspired by the Captain’s actions upon her arrival to a decimated Earth and decides to use her strange gifts to help others.
Rumors state that Ms. Marvel could show up as soon as a potential sequel to Captain Marvel occurs. The one thorn in continuity’s side with Kamala is that she is an Inhuman, a being whose DNA reacted positively with the Terrigenesis process brought to the small screen through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. While Marvel’s television and film divisions have limited overlap with each other, the confirmed cancellation of “Inhumans” after one season makes it unlikely that Marvel will stick closely to the origin of Kamala’s powers. Regardless of how Kamala is brought to film, her debut is a foregone conclusion.
