Jason Blum, the producer of last October’s Halloween reboot, has his eye set on continuing the franchise. In an interview with Moviefone to promote his latest film, Happy Death Day 2U, Blum said that he hopes to make at least ten new Halloween films. While Blum also noted to his interviewer that a sequel is not currently in the works, new reports indicate that the studio has secretly begun preparing for the next entry in the series. Collider claims that Blumhouse Productions has hired writer Scott Teems, best known for his work on The Breathing Method, to pen the latest entry in the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. Blumhouse has yet to comment on the report.
According to Collider, the new film will feature all three generations of Strode women, with actresses Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak all set to return for the film. At the conclusion of the last film, the three women successfully trapped Myers in the basement of Laurie’s house, burning it to the ground with the masked killer still inside. Collider didn’t address if Michael Myers actor Nick Castle would return for the film, but did say that John Carpenter, the creator of the Halloween franchise, was expected to return as an executive producer. Fans of the series credit Carpenter’s involvement in the most recent film for its great success. Carpenter directed the 1978 original and produced the first two sequels in the franchise. In addition to serving as an executive producer, Carpenter also scored last year’s film.
Upon its release, Halloween made an impressive $253 million at the box office, a record for the slasher genre. The film was also well-received by fans of the series and critics alike, scoring an impressive 79% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences who missed out on the Halloween’s theatrical release can now enjoy it on digital and Blu-ray.
