Evan Peters, who has played Quicksilver in two X-Men films with a third in the works, says that he “would love” to portray the character in a solo film.

“I think that would be so fun,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I love the special effects and the sequences and I love working with all those guys, so in one second I would do that.”

Peters first portrayed Peter Maximoff (“Pietro” in the comics), a super-fast mutant and the long-lost son of Magneto, in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2011) and then X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). The latter movie had Quicksilver help the X-Men fight against the titular villain, after which he wound up joining the team; he will reprise his role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, currently scheduled for release on Valentine’s Day 2019.

The X-Men franchise seems to be trying to branch out into more solo flicks, at least since Deadpool showed that it could work for characters other than Wolverine. A Gambit movie is supposed to be released in about a year, though savvy fans can possibly expect it to be delayed. Films based on Kitty Pryde, X-23 and even Multiple Man are also said to be in the works.

Could Quicksilver be the next X-film announced? He has turned out to be a favorite among fans, having the humor of his comic book counterpart while lacking most of his less admirable traits. That said, nothing from the studio seems to indicate that it is in the cards right now.

It is interesting to compare the X-Men films’ treatment of the character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which introduced him in Avengers: Age of Ultron and killed him off by the end of that film (though heroically, at least). In contrast, Quicksilver’s sister Wanda/the Scarlet Witch has become a recurring character in that franchise, while she is absent entirely from the X-Men films.

Speaking of the MCU, though, there is the fact that Fox is currently selling the X-Men move rights, and nearly all of its properties, to Disney; this puts many of their future projects in a state of flux, and as such that may stymie the chances of making any movie that is not already in production.
