If you are trying to lose weight, then you can definitely benefit by eating more slowly. There was a study done that involved 59,000 men and women from Japan. They all had type 2 diabetes. They were asked whether they ate slow, quick or normal. The researchers found that people who ate slow were less likely to be obese. People who ate at a normal speed were also less likely to be obese.

They were also asked about their other behaviors. The researchers found that eating dinner late, eating snacks after dinner and skipping breakfast were also linked to obesity. Dr. Donald Hensrud was one of the people who were involved in the study. He stated that eating more slowly is one of the best things that you can do to eat more slowly.

He also stated that the data may be skewed because all of the people in the study had type 2 diabetes. People who have diabetes usually have a harder time losing weight than those who do not have it. However, he still believes that everyone can benefit from eating more slowly.

Donald stated that the data that they received from the study was self-reported. There is a possibility that people gave false information to the researchers. Even though the data reported may be true, it is something that people should take with a grain of salt.

Donald also noted that there are many other factors that will affect your weight. One of those factors is your physical activity level. He stated that no one knows exactly why people who eat more slowly gain less weight. However, it does not hurt to try it.

Researchers believe that it takes about 20 minutes for the brain to realize that you are full. Therefore, if you eat slower, then you will naturally reduce your food consumption.
