Hunter Croteau is getting adjusted to his new body. The 20-year-old has managed to lose 170 pounds in just eight months thanks to his weight loss surgery. Hunter spent a lot of time with his grandparents when he was growing up because his parents worked a lot. Hunter’s doctor once told his family that he was underweight. His family started feeding him rice, which led to his weight gain.
Both of Hunter’s grandparents were overweight. He ended up developing their bad habits. A tragedy caused Hunter to put on even more weight. Hunter’s brother committed suicide when Hunter was a freshman in high school. He used food to comfort himself.
Hunter started binge eating. He would take in over 6,000 calories one day. He could also eat over $30 in takeout by himself. He was 360 pounds by the time that he graduated from high school.
Hunter decided to get healthy after he graduated. He tried to do it on his own, but what he was doing was not working for him. A woman he met in a grocery store changed his life. Hunter was using an electric cart to buy diet drinks. The woman told him that she understood his struggles because her daughter was obese too. The woman also told him that his daughter had undergone gastric sleeve surgery and lost a lot of weight from it.
Hunter decided to get gastric sleeve surgery at the age of 19. He started seeing a therapist before he got surgery. He found out where his food issues came from. He also stated that therapy mentally prepared him for surgery.
Hunter now weighs 190 pounds. He has lost almost half his body weight. Hunter knows that he will have to make changes in order to maintain the weight loss. He eats high-protein dinners and lunches in order to maintain his weight. He also cooks at home instead of eating takeout. Additionally, he hits the gym five days per week.
