Coming into the 2019 season, the New York Giants had deficiencies in various areas of the roster. Few people thought the Giants could compete for a playoff spot in 2019. After drafting Saquon Barkley, some fans thought the Giants would have a dynamic offense.

Although Barkley has been impressive, the Giants have won just two games this season. As a result, the team is no longer in playoff contention. Fans are now looking forward to the 2019 draft. In the latest draft, the team decided to select a running back instead of a quarterback. With Eli Manning aging fast, the team must choose a young quarterback to develop for the future.

Defensive Issues

With the disappointing season, the general manager is already planning for the future. The Giants traded some of the team’s best defensive players for additional picks in upcoming drafts. The trades took some fans by surprise, but it is the best decision for a team that needs to rebuild for the future.

Just a few seasons ago, the Giants had one of the best defenses in the NFL. However, combined with a mediocre offense, the Giants have not been able to contain many teams this year.

Quarterback Options

The Giants have two options to find a quarterback for the future. The team can sign a free agent quarterback after the season. Kirk Cousins signed with the Vikings last year, and the move looks like an excellent decision.

However, elite quarterbacks are not always available to sign after the season ends. To make things worse, the Giants do not have a ton of cap space to spend on a free agent quarterback.

The second option is to draft a quarterback out of college. Developing a successful quarterback is one of the hardest aspects of being a general manager in the NFL. The good news is that any quarterback drafted by the Giants will have a lot of talent to work with. Although many Giants fans are discouraged, most are looking forward to 2019.
