When working to achieve any fitness goal, people must understand the importance of setting S.M.A.R.T. goals. S.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-based. Too often, it is seen how many people struggle to maintain their fitness regimen due to slow or minimal results. Such a feat can and usually is very discouraging. However, there is a way around these fitness goal hang-ups. H.I.I.T. or High-Intensity Interval Training is one of the most effective ways to optimize your workouts and improve your results.
1. Increase Metabolic Rate
When trying to boost metabolic rate, H.I.I.T. is a very effective way to achieve this. When the metabolic rate increases, a person burns more calories during rest and during their regular workout routines. This means that one continues to burn more calories overall even when they aren’t necessarily being physically active which is wonderful for weight loss.
2. Get Faster Results with Less Time
It’s proven that 15 to 30 minutes of High-Intensity Interval Training can help a person burn more calories than an hour of cardio. This is because H.I.I.T. increases the metabolic rate which means more calories are being burned. Thus, one can expect some pretty great results using this method.
3. Shred and Tone
When building muscle or toning, stubborn layers of fat can be so annoying. H.I.I.T. really helps to shred and burn fat, revealing more of the definition in the body. When going for a muscular, toned look, a combination of H.I.I.T. and weight training is phenomenal. An average H.I.I.T. workout entails an alternation between slow paced exercise and fast pace exercise for a certain duration of time. The following is an example.
- Warm up with a brisk walk for 1 minute.
- Sprint at high speed for 30 seconds.
- Walk slowly for 30 seconds.
- Alternate between sprinting and a slow-paced walk for 15-30 minutes.
4. Improve Oxygen Consumption
In short, oxygen consumption is the muscles’ abilities to use oxygen. In addition to all the amazing benefits of H.I.I.T., oxygen consumption is just another on the list. The benefits of oxygen intake include improved mood, increased energy, reduced stressed, and improved sleep.
