This can be attributed to better law enforcement, less violence, and greater public safety when compared to illegal drug dealers. Also, legalizing marijuana allows the government to control how much is grown and sold so that dangerous drugs like opioids aren’t produced by legitimate growers who may sell their products illegally.

3. Fewer Unnecessary Medical Treatments

According to research by RAND Corporation, about half of Americans age 12 and older say that using marijuana for medical purposes helped them. Although some patients use the plant for recreational purposes, most people turn to medical marijuana to treat issues like glaucoma, epilepsy, MS, cancer, PTSD, arthritis, and AIDS-related illnesses. Interestingly enough, many people find that marijuana works better than pharmaceutical treatments at managing certain types of symptoms. For example, one study found that individuals who used smokable marijuana had fewer side effects than those taking Marinol, a synthetic form of THC.

4. Reduced Drug Abuse and Addiction

Cannabis has been proven to be a safer alternative to other drugs such as alcohol or opioids. Another reason people seek out marijuana for medical purposes is to avoid dependence on addictive substances and harmful habits. Anecdotal reports also show that the plant helps reduce cravings for other addictive drugs.
