Fans Not Happy With NBA Teams Resting Players

There has been a lot of controversy lately with the policy that some teams have when it comes to resting their players. This has become an issue over the past few years. Fans started to complain that they were buying tickets for games to see star players and those players were resting during that game. The problem is even greater when it comes to games that are televised nationally. The NBA has said that they do not want teams to rest star players during games that are on national TV. This is because it is bad for the NBA and its TV partners if the best players in the game are not in the national spotlight.

The issue has been brought up again because of the refusal of the Los Angeles Clippers to play superstar Kawhi Leonard in a game that was on national TV against the Milwaukee Bucks. The NBA released a statement that they were not against the Clippers resting Leonard in this situation because he is recovering from a knee injury and the team did not want him playing two consecutive nights. Michael Jordan has been critical of the policy of resting players just to manage their work loads. He believes that all of the healthy players should play in every game. It was very common in Jordan’s era for players to play in all 82 games.

It seems that this controversy is not going to go away any time soon. This is because teams want their players to be fresh and well rested when the playoffs roll around. Therefore, they are more than willing to have their star players miss some regular season games that are meaningless. Teams do not seem to care about the mandate from the NBA about having players appear in nationally televised games. Teams know that the regular season can be very grueling. Players could get injured if their work load is too heavy.

Teams want to avoid having their key players get injured because of overuse during the regular season. This makes very good sense to most people. They are especially trying to protect the older players who might be more prone to getting injured. The NBA still wants to be able to sell its product to the masses. The only way that it can do that is if the star players are in the lineup when the national TV cameras are on.
