Elon Musk has always been an ambitious entrepreneur and this can be said about his inventions. This is a guy who is involved with SpaceX as its chief executive officer and its founder. The question that still lingers in the mind of many people is how he manages to pay for these expensive projects. The company has been a successful one despite being small in a field that is dominated by NASA that is funded by the United States government. Rocket launches proceeds are also small according to experts and this might be the reason why Elon Musk wants to get involved in other ambitious projects. Mr. Musk is seeking to invest in another space business where he will launch satellites that will be used as a solution to high speed internet around the world. According to the New York Times, Mr. Musk is looking to Launch Starlink into space. Mr. Musk was speaking on Wednesday during a press conference where he said that the aim of the project is to provide internet to areas that totally have none. At the same time the projects aims at bringing down the cost of the internet where it’s expensive and in areas where it’s totally unreliable.
The launch could not be carried out on Wednesday as planned and had to be postponed to Thursday evening. Mr. Musk said that winds in the upper atmosphere were the reason for the delay. In the past SpaceX has provided services to private companies and NASA as they seek to ferry cargo to the orbit. The new rocket is referred to as Falcon 9 and it has 60 identical satellites that will be transported to space. SpaceX has been doing some research on satellites in the last few years and they even launched two prototypes last year that were referred to as Tintin A and Tintin B. Mr. Musk warned that the technology is new and anything can happen including failing. He said that there was some possibility that some of the satellites might fail to function. He was candid that only a small number of the satellites were expected to function. While there are other companies providing the same services as Starlink, the only difference is that the satellites from this project will be near the earth. According to Starlink engineers their satellites are expected to orbit at a distance of between 210 and 710 miles above the earth which is quite shorter.
