Angels Rout Yankees and Tanaka

One of the teams that has been playing very well lately is the New York Yankees. They had won eight of their last nine games. They had also won the first two games against the Los Angeles Angels. However, the Angels managed to spoil the series finale for the Yankees by bombing starter Masahiro Tanaka to the tune of six hits and five earned runs in 5.2 innings. It was the worst start so far this year for Tanaka. The Angels also hit a pair of home runs off him on their way to an easy 11-5 blowout win.

The 2019 season has been a major disappointment so far for the Angels. Their record currently stands at 10-16. This is clearly not where new manager Brad Ausmus thought his team was going to be one month into the season. Outfielder Mike Trout missed a few games with a groin issue. They clearly missed his big bat in the lineup. The Angels simply have not hit very well so far this year. That will need to change if this team has any hope of contending. Not many people saw the Angels making a run at the playoffs. However, they have still played below the expectations of most experts.

There has been much written about the massive amount of injuries that the Yankees have sustained to far this year. There is no question that the team has been forced to deal with more injuries to star players in the first month than most teams have in a year. Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks, Didi Gregorius and Aaron Judge are all out of the lineup at the present time. Many people think that the only player better than Judge is Mike Trout. Therefore, his loss is enormous. He suffered an injury to his oblique and there is no timetable for his return.

The Yankees have played very well despite the bizarre lineup that manager Aaron Boone has been forced to assemble on a daily basis. Some of the players who usually ride the bench have been given the opportunity to start and they have made the most of it. Yankee general manager Brian Cashman said that this is a result of the team having a very deep farm system. Their young players have been able to come up big in games so far while their regular players are hurt. There is no telling how much longer they can do this.
