LeBron James comments on his NBA future including team ownership

With the NBA All-Star Game 2019 taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina it means that superstar LeBron James is front and center. James was part of Saturday’s NBA All-Star media day and shed some light on his NBA future including how much longer he might play, as well as his plans to own a team one day.

As ESPN reported, James said he’s got plenty “more game” left in him for his NBA career. James told the media he has “A ton more years to play this game and suit up and be in a Lakers uniform.” That’s encouraging for fans of King James as well as the fanbase of his current team.

At age 34, he has achieved quite a bit and is now a member of the Los Angeles Lakers after spending multiple seasons with Cleveland and Miami. Several of those seasons brought James championships. His current contract with the Lakers is good for four years and based on rumors of bringing more stars to LA, it seems he’s there for at least that long. However, questions of retirement also brought up questions about LeBron’s future goals.

One goal that made headlines was LeBron talking about possibly owning an NBA team one day. When asked Saturday about those plans, James told the media: “It’s not like it’s a dream of mine. It’s more of an aspiration. See if it happens. If it don’t, I won’t be disappointed in anything I’ve done off the floor.”

LeBron also told the media it would have to be “the right fit” for him to get involved in ownership of an NBA team. Some teams carry much higher price tags than others around the league. However, James could become the second basketball player to own a team, if he goes forth with his plans. The other is a player James gets compared to quite often: Michael Jordan.

Jordan’s name was also mentioned as part of LeBron’s media day questions and answers. LeBron is on pace to surpass Jordan on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list. He said of the comparisons with some of the game’s all-time best players, “It’s crazy to me when I’m talked about with some of the greats. You talk about MJ, who I looked up to and always believed was the greatest.”

LeBron James will take to the court on Sunday evening as the captain for Team LeBron in the 2019 NBA All-Star Game. It takes place at 8 p.m. Eastern Time with TNT showing live televised and online coverage through their apps.
