One of the most famous and beloved movie monsters of all-time is Godzilla. The massive lizard started appearing in Japanese movies all the way back in the 1950s. Those movies were cheesy and had very low budgets. Therefore, Godzilla was simply a man jumping around in a costume. Things have changed a lot since then. Computers have made it possible to make creatures like Godzilla look more realistic than ever before. Fans of this particular movie monster should rejoice because a new movie will be coming out on May 31. It will be called “Godzilla: King of Monsters.” The movie comes on the heels of the huge success enjoyed by “Kong: Skull Island.” Fans will have even more to celebrate in 2020 when King Kong and Godzilla will be appearing in a movie together. That film will be called “Godzilla vs. Kong” and will come out May 22 of next year.
There is no question that Legendary Pictures is banking on this movie to be a massive worldwide hit. It will need to be very successful in order for the studio to make back the money they are putting into it. The budget for the film is estimated to be north of $200 million. Based on the trailers that have been released so far, the money has been well spent. Godzilla looks terrific as he did in his most recent movie appearance. However, it remains to be seen if the story lives up to the visual brilliance of the trailer.
Action movies with lots of special effects are what movie studios depend on to make a profit these days. The money made by these summer blockbusters allows them to finance smaller films that will be more likely to be nominated for Academy Awards. Godzilla is a safe bet to do well at the box office. The character has a large fan base around the world. This means there is no need to introduce this character to audiences. This is a huge advantage as far as marketing the film is concerned. Godzilla has more than 60 years of history at this point.
Fans are already very excited because there will be other famous monsters appearing in this movie that are enemies of Godzilla. These include King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra. The story involves all of these monsters battling Godzilla to become the ruler of Earth. There will be human characters fighting for Earth’s survival.
