The city of Philadelphia was beyond excited last season when their beloved Eagles defeated Tom Brady and the mighty New England Patriots to capture their first Super Bowl trophy in team history. Now the Eagles and their fans are seeing just one season later how hard it is to repeat as champions.

The Eagles played a must-win game on Monday night against the Washington Redskins and for the first time in several weeks they looked like the team that was flying high all last season.

According to a CBS Sports report, Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz tossed two touchdown passes, and Darren Sproles ran for a score as Philadelphia kept its playoff hopes alive for another week with a 28-13 victory.

It is hard to believe, but Philadelphia’s win over Washington helped the Eagles win back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Eagles improved to 6-6 on the season with the victory but in terms of making the postseason, they are still on the outside looking in.

The Eagles are currently listed as the eighth seed in the NFC. They are tied with number seven Carolina, but they trail the Minnesota Vikings by just a few percentage points for the all-important sixth position.

Philadelphia will have their hands full in terms of catching the Vikings, as their schedule is not a kind one from here on out.

Next week the Eagles take on the Dallas Cowboys from AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas in another must-win game. Not only do the Eagles trail the Cowboys by a game in the NFC East standings, but they have also already lost to Dallas earlier in the season.

This one game could decide Philadelphia’s fate for 2018.

Following Dallas, the Eagles will play the number one seed in all of football, the red-hot Los Angeles Rams. If that isn’t tough enough, Philly also has the surging Houston Texans ahead of them as well.

One thing is for sure, if the Eagles do make the postseason and have a shot at defending their Super Bowl title, it will be a well-earned trip.
