The office Twitter account for the upcoming Disney/Pixar film Incredibles 2 released an image of the movie’s poster, plus an announcement of a new trailer tomorrow (April 13, 2018).
“Suit Up: A new #Incredibles2 trailer debuts tomorrow!” the noon tweet said.
In the poster, we can see the Parr family—made up of two forcibly-retired superheroes and their children—running toward the viewer; they are wearing the same matching outfits from the last film, though we know that Helen/Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) will have to don an “angsty” gray costume for part of the movie.
Preteen son Dash (Huck Milner) seems to be using his super-speed while teenage daughter Violet (Sarah Vowell) has a glowing hand, implying that she is about to activate one of her force fields. Meanwhile, baby Jack-Jack is cheerfully shooting laser beams at a scared raccoon. In the background we can see the ice-powered family friend Lucius Best/Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) swooping in, while Edna Mode (director Brad Bird) stands, small but triumphant, on the other side.
Looming over the logo is a shadowy figure with glowing goggles; presumably this is the film’s villain, about which nothing is confirmed (though fan theories naturally exist). Behind the Parrs we can also see some figures standing before an explosion; from their exaggerated proportions and colorful costumes, they seem to be more superheroes, which is an exciting prospect, since we know from the previous film that most of Helen and Bob (Craig T. Nelson)’s old colleagues have been killed by the previous villain.
While the first movie largely focused on Bob and his midlife crisis, the new installment puts Helen in the protagonist’s chair, as she becomes the face of the movement to relegalize superheroes. Bob, meanwhile, is trying to handle things at home as a house-husband, which is especially difficult with baby Jack-Jack exhibiting such a wide variety of dangerous abilities.
The Incredibles came out in 2004 and was one of Pixar’s big successes, and so many fans are excited for this follow-up. Granted, many Pixar sequels are divisive at best, but this film, which ends just as the family has really learned to pull together and harness their abilities as a team, almost demanded one; hopefully the trailer will confirm that this was the correct decision for the studio.
Incredibles 2 will be released on June 15, 2018.
