American football or gridiron football is the most played and watched sport in all of the United States of America. The game’s top league in the country otherwise known as the National Football League (NFL) is the sport with the highest number of fans who attend to watch live games. However, several professional indoor football Leagues do exist. These play in arenas the size of baseball pitches. The Arena football League is the oldest one among them. Though several NFL owners own it, it is very independent of the NFL. Indoor football Leagues play by different rules that allow for a smaller field of play and higher scoring.
Those players who do not manage to get a spot in the NFL usually end up either playing indoor football or in the Canadian football League (CFL). The CFL is somewhat older and plays by subtly different rules from American football. However, this might not be so noticeable to the casual viewer. Usually, the CFL gives half of its roster positions to be filled with Canadian born players. The other half is where foreign players fit in. These spots almost always end up filled with American players.
Collegian football is a huge thing, especially in North America. The NCAA governs it. Varsity football teams usually play other institutions on their level. They also typically have their football dedicated Stadiums. Some, like the Penn State’s Beaver stadium, can sit up to a hundred thousand! The ritual of autumn college football usually involves cheerleaders, homecoming, bashes and marching bands and is an integral part of small American town’s culture. The football bowl subdivision, FBS, and football championship subdivision, FCS are divisions that only exist in collegian and university football. FBS and FCS teams can and do play each other. However, the FBS is unofficially divided into major conferences and sub-majors. Only the significant conferences are qualified to compete in the national championship in practice.
High school football is another favorite point of interest in America. Most high schools have their teams. A high school football match can easily fill over a hundred thousand in a stadium. Usually, high schools only play other schools in their state. The sanctioning body of public high school football for the states is the National Federation of State High School Associations. USA football usually assembles a team to fight for the title In the IFAF world championships every four years. The IFAF also holds an under 19 championship for high school football players.
