Over the last three decades or so, the microbrewery scene across the United States has enjoyed a nice renaissance that ranges from classic recipes to strange concoctions. Perhaps not all American beer lovers realize how good they have it here; the older ones certainly do because they remember a time when their choices were limited to brands such as Budweiser and Coors Lite. Thankfully, things have changed for the better, and now we have highly competitive brewing scenes in quite a few cities. According to recent reports published by Vine Pair and Mashed, here are the best American cities for microbrewery fans these days:
Denver
The transformation of Colorado from being known as the home of Coors Lite to a respected microbrewery state did not happen overnight. In Denver, independent brewers organize the annual Great American Beer Festival, in which more than 300 local breweries participate.
Boston
This was one of the first U.S. metropolitan areas where the microbrew revolution took hold during the late 1980s. Believe it or not, there was a time when Samuel Adams was a microbrewery operation. If you enjoy stout beers, Beantown will never let you down.
San Francisco
Is there such a thing as having too many craft beer options? Some residents of San Francisco believe this to the case. They often have a hard time deciding what to try next. You can never go wrong with enjoying Anchor Steam when you visit the City by the Bay; after all, Anchor Brewing has been around since 1896, and its wonderful recipe has not changed. San Francisco is highly recommended if you are interested in quirky recipes such as milkshake-flavored IPAs.
Portland
Microbreweries used to be operated by hippie communes around Portland in the late 1960s, but they did not turn commercial until the 1980s. Even though Portland is home to about 70 breweries, you will feel as if there are hundreds of them because this is a city where interesting craft beers can be found at just about any convenience store.
San Diego
Proximity to Tijuana is what made America’s Finest City fall in love with Mexican ales such as Modelo, which happen to be very refreshing, and this resulted in an avalanche of microbreweries setting up shop a couple of days ago. What is amazing about the San Diego craft beer scene is how tightly packed it is; you can find dozens of small breweries within the downtown districts.
